Inertial stabilization capability for imaging infrared sensors introduced by FLIR Motion Control

ORLANDO, Fla., 26 April 2011. FLIR Motion Control Systems Inc. (formerly Directed Perception) in Burlingame, Calif., is introducing the Inertial Stabilization Module (ISM) open-architecture inertial stabilization option for the company's E-Series pan/tilt models for forward-looking infrared sensors and other imaging systems built in to applications such as maritime camera systems, communications-on-the-move, airborne antenna or camera systems, as well as ground-vehicle-mounted camera systems for on-the-move force protection and surveillance.


FLIR Motion Control Systems introduced the imaging sensor stabilization capability today at the SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing (DSS) conference and trade show in Orlando, Fla.

The ISM uses a three-axis gyro and special firmware to control the pan/tilt's pointing angles and compensate for motion of ground vehicles, aircraft, and other moving platforms to keep IR sensors steady in difficult conditions.

The ISM is for OEM applications such as video tracking, radar slew-to-cue, and joystick control. It integrates with systems with built-in serial and Ethernet interfaces. A Web interface provides configuration and tailoring. The ISM is available as a factory option for PTU-D48E, PTU-D100E, and PTU-D300E pan/tilt systems.
