Class H and K rad-hard certifications under MIL-PRF-38534 pertain to certain classes of resistance to the effects of radiation. MIL-PRF-38534 is administered by the U.S. Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) in Columbus Ohio, which is part of the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).This certification acknowledges expertise at Microsemi to design and build rad-hard microelectronics space and high-altitude aviation applications, as well as for mission-critical military systems expected to encounter radiation in the environment.

The certification from DSCC puts Microsemi in "an elite group" of microelectronics companies that supply the aerospace and defense industry, says Kare Karlsen, executive vice president of the Microsemi HiRel Group. The company has stated the MIL-PRF-38534 class K certification process for several standard products set for introduction this year, Karlsen says.

Class K products Microsemi officials expect to announce in 2011 include point-of-load power supplies, solid-state relays, and linear regulators for applications in missiles, aircraft, nuclear power facilities, and satellites.
