CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 27 April 2011. GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introduced today announced the NETernity GBX460 rugged 6U OpenVPX data plane switch with OpenWare switch management for applications in military communications, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), and radar processing. The GBX460 with OpenWare supports high-throughput interprocessor communications among 10-Gigabit Ethernet-enabled processing nodes for network-centric military and aerospace applications. The board's non-blocking 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports can pass traffic across 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports at wire speed without bottlenecks.

Editor's note: GE Intelligent Platforms changed its name to Abaco Systems on 23 Nov. 2015 as a result of the company's acquisition last September by New York-based private equity firm Veritas Capital.

The GBX460 with OpenWare supports layer 2/3 switching and routing, including support for IPv6 addressing; manages configuration and protocol options; and enables designers to customize software.

The GBX460 supports several OpenVPX slots and module profiles, and provides twenty 10-Gigabit Ethernet data plane fat pipes and sixteen 1 Gigabit Ethernet control plane thin pipes to support multi-board 6U VITA 65 system configurations. Designers can configure multi-board systems by using the GBX460 together with GE processor cards.

Optional builds for the GBX460 include support for as many as twenty-four 24 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports or as many as four front panel 10-Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports to connect to external networks.
