SAN DIEGO, 3 May 2011. Atego in San Diego, which specializes in collaborative development tools for mission- and safety-critical systems, has acquired HighRely Inc. in Phoenix to boost Atego's expertise in DO-178B and DO-254 safety-critical software certification and training services. HighRely specializes in development tools for critical embedded systems such as avionics.

HighRely claims to have the largest avionics certification and training center in North America, and has more DO-178B and DO-254 engineering representatives and avionics designers than any other company, HighRely officials say. Financial terms of the acquisition were not released.

Atego is acquiring all of HighRely's assets, including services, products, and intellectual property. All HighRely employees, the company's Phoenix headquarters, and its avionics certification center will become part of Atego's global business operations.

Atego will establish an AtegoHighRely brand for selling HighRely-developed DO-178B and DO-254 avionics certification and training services. Atego also will fold the HighRelyCheck- and HighRelyTrace-branded engineering tools into Atego's products.

The HighRely acquisition "considerably reinforces our capabilities in the aerospace and avionics market," says Hedley Apperly, vice president of product and marketing at Atego.
