Embedded digital compass that integrates with GPS satellite navigation introduced by OceanServer

June 29, 2011
FALL RIVER, Mass., 29 June 2011. OceanServer Technology Inc. in Fall River, Mass., is introducing a line of compact and accurate 3-axis positioning sensors for aerospace and defense applications such as antennas, night vision systems, robotics, satellites, sonar, solar panels, and weather instrumentation. The electronic compass devices come in either a 0.6-inch version for embedded applications, or a 1-square-inch full-board size. The full-board version automatically detects either USB or RS232 connections and a TTL interface. Systems designers may integrate these navigation and guidance devices with global positioning system (GPS) satellite navigation to provide heading information.

Systems designers may integrate these navigation and guidance devices with global positioning system (GPS) satellite navigation to provide heading information. The electronic compass devices provide 0.5 degrees nominal accuracy, 0.1 resolution, plus-or-minus 180 degrees roll, plus-or-minus 90 degrees tilt, and tilt compensation that is gimbaled electronically.

The devices offer 3-Axis magnetic sensors with 3-Axis accelerometers as standard equipment. Other standard features include hard- and soft-iron calibration, a processor running at 50 MIPS that supports IEEE floating point math, a 24-bit A/D converter, and programmable data rates ranging from 4.8 to 115 megabits per second. OceanServer also offers Windows software for testing and evaluation.
