Communications & Power Industries’ (CPI’s) Econco Division in Palo Alto, Calif., won a five-year, roughly $15 million U.S. Navy contract to repair and remanufacture tetrodes, four-element electron tubes, in support of the Aegis weapons system’s AN-SPY-1 radar system. U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) in Mechanicsburg, Pa., awarded the contract. Work will be performed at the CPI Econco Division in Woodland, Calif.
CPI has supported the Aegis weapons system for more than 30 years, according to a company spokesperson. The AN/SPY-1 multifunctional, phased-array radar serves as the primary air and surface radar on the U.S. Navy Ticonderoga-class (CG-47) cruisers and Arleigh Burke-class (DDG-51) destroyers, in addition to the destroyers of several foreign navies.
