Microsemi acquisition juggernaut rolls on with buy of rad-hard semiconductor maker ASIC Advantage

IRVINE, Calif., 7 July 2011. Microsemi Corp. in Irvine, Calif., has acquired fabless semiconductor company ASIC Advantage Inc. in Sunnyvale, Calif., to enhance Microsemi's expertise in radiation-hardened, high-performance, and high-voltage integrated circuits for aerospace, automotive, communications, industrial, and medical applications. Terms of the acquisition were not released. ASIC Advantage is 12 years old and its products range from high-volume, low-cost standard integrated circuits for smart power to complex systems-on-chip.

Terms of the acquisition were not released.ASIC Advantage is 12 years old and its products range from high-volume, low-cost standard integrated circuits for smart power to complex systems-on-chip. ASIC Advantage offers 6-volt CMOS and BiCMOS processes to 50-volt bipolar-CMOS processes to a 600-volt dielectrically isolated (DI) process.The company provides radiation-hardened application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for satellite telemetry and control, as well as electronic components for aircraft braking, under-the-hood automotive sensors, cell phone power, and low-power battery chargers.

Microsemi (Nasdaq:MSCC) specializes in high-reliability semiconductors for aerospace, defense, security; enterprise, commercial, industrial, and alternative-energy applications. In May Microsemi acquired RF and microwave components supplier AML Communications Inc. in Camarillo, Calif. Over the past two years Microsemi also has acquired secure solid-state memory specialist White Electronic Designs Corp. in Phoenix, as well as field-programmable gate array (FPGA) manufacturer Actel Corp. in Mountain View, Calif.
