FORT WORTH, Texas, 5 Oct. 2011. Military avionics experts at Elbit Systems of America LLC in Fort Worth, Texas, will supply the U.S. Air Force with the CV-22 Color Helmet Mounted Display for crews of the Air Force Special Operations Command CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. Elbit engineers will couple helmet display and tracking system technology with color symbology to design the CV-22 helmet-mounted display system for day and night missions, Elbit officials say.
The new helmet-mounted displays will help provide special operations with situational awareness by enabling them to fly their tiltrotor aircraft while looking out the windshield and windows most of the time, rather than staring at cockpit instruments. The Elbit helmet-mounted displays also will help CV-22 crews by providing 3D conformal symbology and blue force tracker information.
The color helmet-mounted display is based on the Elbit ANVIS/HUD system which has been in use by U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Air Force helicopter tilt rotor aircraft pilots. This system is installed on UH-60L, CH-47D, CH-53E, CH-46E, UH-1N, V-22, HH-65, MH-60T, and MH-60S aircraft, and has seen extensive use in Iraq and Afghanistan, Elbit officials say.
