Harris Corp. gains $16 million order from U.S. Department of Defense for Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radios

MELBOURNE, Fla., 10 Oct. 2011. Harris Corp. (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, won a $16 million order from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for additional Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radio systems. The radios will supply DOD forces with networked line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight tactical communications.

MELBOURNE, Fla., 10 Oct. 2011. Harris Corp. (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, won a $16 million order from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for additional Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radio systems. The radios will supply DOD forces with networked line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight tactical communications.

The wideband manpack radio system is JTRSSoftware Communications Architecture (SCA)-certified, NSA Type-1 certified, and software-defined with reduced size, weight, and power (SWaP) to support network-enabled missions. The field-proven AN/PRC-117G delivers situational awareness to the battlefield through voice, wideband data, and mobile ad-hoc networking.

“The AN/PRC-117G delivers a unique combination of capabilities that provide the warfighter at the tactical edge with voice, video, and data in real-time,” says Brendan O’Connell, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. “These capabilities support a range of new applications, such as collaborative chat and secure database access. The AN/PRC-117G is a software-defined radio developed under the JTRS Enterprise Business Model and is upgradeable to support emerging missions according to customer requirements.”

The company's Falcon software-defined tactical radio systems encompass manpack, handheld, and vehicular applications.
