LETCHWORTH, England, 15 Nov. 2011. Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing in Letchworth, England, is introducing a conduction-cooled VITA-57 XMC-280 JPEG2000 video compression XMC mezzanine card for demanding military applications such as situational awareness, that require the distribution or recording, display and storage of mission-critical video. The XMC-280 captures, compresses, decompresses, and displays two channels of video at resolutions to 1,080 pixels and 1,920 by 1,200 pixels, and provides visually lossless video compression for rugged military systems.

The XMC module provides video IO via XMC rear IO connectors Pn5 and Pn6; digital DVI signals; audio support; two stereo channels or four mono channels; 16-bit 48 kHz, WAV and PCM encoding; four-lane PCI Express 1.1 interface; and Windows and Linux on x86 hosts, and Linux on PowerPC/Power Architecture hosts for software support.

The XMC-280 CC enables users to distribute several channels of high-definition video over standard Gigabit Ethernet networks. The card retains details at 50:1 compression so that as many as eight channels of video can be transmitted over a Gigabit Ethernet channel.

This industry-standard XMC-format module can be deployed on a variety of conduction-cooled host formats, including 6U VME and 3U and 6U VPX boards.
