ST. INIGOES, Md., 9 Dec. 2011. BAE Systems engineers will design, install, and test onboard radio communications and network capability—including multi-spectrum radio sets, antenna systems, baseband switching, data-link modems, and message distribution services—on the U.S. Navy’s new DDG 113 and DDG 114 destroyers. Company engineers will provide, under a new $37 million contract award, systems engineering, production integration, logistics, crew training, and configuration management services.

The contract was awarded by the Naval Air Warfare Center – Aircraft Division at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Southern Maryland. It includes a one-year base, plus four option years. If all of the options are exercised, the total value could reach approximately $37 million.

“This award continues our strong legacy of support to the Navy’s DDG program,” explains Mark Keeler, vice president and general manager for Land and Electronic Systems at BAE Systems Support Solutions.

BAE Systems has, to date, provided the onboard communications for 62 destroyers and 27 cruisers equipped with the Aegis combat system.

Work on the contract will be conducted primarily at Navy facilities in St. Inigoes, Md., and nearby BAE Systems offices. The systems will be installed at other shipbuilder sites, including Pascagoula, Miss., and Bath, Maine.
