  • October 20, 2013 -- Army set to open competition to develop Autonomous Mine Detection System (AMDS)
    PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J., 20 Oct. 2013. U.S. Army counter-mine experts say they plan to issue a formal solicitation before the end of October for full-scale development of unmanned ground vehicle (UGV)-mounted mine-detection system called the Autonomous Mine Detection System (AMDS).
  • January 5, 2012 -- Raytheon to improve resolution of UAV electro-optical sensor payload in Air Force contract
    WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio, 5 Jan. 2011. Military electro-optics experts at the Raytheon Co., Space and Airborne Systems in McKinney, Texas, are seeking to improve the resolution of the Multi-Spectral Targeting System-B (MTS-B) sensor pod for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft under terms of a $25.8 million contract awarded Tuesday from the U.S. Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The contract calls for Raytheon to continue making improvements to the MTS-B UAV sensor -- particularly to improve the system imaging from standard definition to high definition.
  • February 14, 2012 -- DOD plans to spend $5.78 billion for unmanned vehicles procurement and research in 2013
    WASHINGTON, 14 Feb. 2012. Officials of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) plan to spend at least $5.78 billion to buy and develop unmanned vehicles and unmanned vehicle payloads next year, according to data in the Pentagon's budget documents released this week. This figure is down 13.14 percent from the same levels of spending this year, and is down 16.9 percent from unmanned vehicles procurement and research in 2011.
  • February 16, 2012 -- AeroVironment gains U.S. Air Force order for Switchblade loitering munition systems, services
    MONROVIA, Calif., 16 Feb. 2012. AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ:AVAV) won a $4,167,777 order from the U.S. Air Force for operational Switchblade loitering munition systems and services, engineering services, and operator training. AeroVironment will work with munition subcontractor ATK (NYSE:ATK) to produce and deliver the systems. 
  • February 23, 2012 -- Longbow LLC delivers first common data link assembly for U.S. Army Apache Block III helicopter
    ORLANDO, Fla., 23 Feb. 2012. Engineers from the Longbow Limited Liability Company, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) and Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC), have delivered to the U.S. Army the first production Unmanned Aerial Systems Tactical Common Data Link Assembly (UTA) for the Apache Block III helicopter, following the completion of the Longbow UTA system design and development phase. The Longbow UTA two-way, high-bandwidth data link for the Apache enables aircrews to control the sensor and flight path of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs).
