MicroOLED debuts OLED microdisplay with high pixel density

January 30, 2012

Grenoble, France, 30 Jan. 2012. MicroOLED, a maker of power-efficient microdisplays for near-to-eye applications, has introduced a 5.4 million pixel density, 0.61-inch diagonal, low-power consumption Organic Light-Emitting Display (OLED) microdisplay on silicon. The ultra-compact microdisplay is designed for applications demanding high picture quality, including professional camera and camcorder equipment, night-vision systems, and head-mounted displays.

MicroOLED has eliminated the gap between pixels; with no black matrix present, the image resolution is of the highest quality, making it suitable for defense, medical, and professional camera applications that demand sharp images with smooth transitional tones.

Depending on how the OLED microdisplay is driven, it can perform using as low as 0.2-watt, half the power consumption of other products in its category. MicroOLED achieves this low level of power consumption even when the digital video input is embedded.

“The current trend in replacing optics with electronics components fits excellently with our ability to produce this exceptional picture quality in miniature format,” says Eric Marcellin-Dibon, CEO of MicroOLED.

The new display meets the standard environmental operating requirements for military applications, says a company representative.
