Laird Technologies boosts expertise in machine-to-machine communications with Summit acquisition

CHESTERFIELD, Mo., 7 March 2012. Executives of Laird Technologies Inc., an antennas and RF and microwave modules specialist in Chesterfield, Mo., are boosting their company's presence in wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) applications with their acquisition last week of rugged Wi-Fi products designer Summit Data Communications Inc. in Akron, Ohio.

“The acquisition of Summit allows us to develop further our wireless connectivity offering, adding products to our range that allow wireless systems to function efficiently in difficult radio frequency environments like factories and hospitals,” says Nigel Keen, Laird’s executive chairman.

Laird Technologies designs and builds customized antennas, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, thermal management products, specialty metal products, and signal integrity components. Summit, meanwhile, designs industrial-grade and medical-grade wireless modules that connect devices such as data-collection terminals and medical equipment in factories, warehouses, and hospitals.
