NEUILLY, France. 5 May 2012. Embraer Defence and Security have selected Thales to provide the Inertial Navigation System (INS) and the GPS of the KC-390military transport aircraft. Thales' High Performance Inertial Reference System (HPIRS) is a civil certified product that meets military performance standards. The system provides navigation capabilities and performances; allowing military aircraft to conduct missions flying in all weather conditions. The information the system provides included all the reference localization such as 3D position, 3D velocity, attitudes, true and magnetic heading, angular rates and linear accelerations. The Thales HPIRS features modular design that enables it to be installed on a large range of civil and military aircraft. The KC-390 is a medium-size, twin-engine, jet-powered military transport aircraft that is being developed by Embraer. The first prototype of the KC-390 is expected to be produced in 2014.
