HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., 26 Aug. 2012. Behlman Electronics Inc. in Hauppauge, N.Y., is introducing the VPXtra 1000CD 1,000-Watt DC high-density 6U VPX-compliant switch-mode power supply for high-end mission-critical military, airborne, shipboard, vehicle, industrial, and mobile applications.
The rugged high-reliability power electronics device complies with the OpenVPX VITA 62 embedded computing standard for powering OpenVPX modules.
The power supply has Behlman's Xtra-Cooling card-edge conduction-cooling technology that enables the dual output VPXtra 1000CD to deliver as much as 1,000 Watts of clean, regulated, 12-volt DC power and 3.3-volt DC auxiliary power with a typical efficiency of 90 percent from a 28-volt DC input.
"Achieving adequate cooling in such a high-density package was a daunting task, but it had to be done in order to enable higher power VPX applications," says Behlman President Ron Storm.
Standard features include overvoltage; short circuit and thermal protection, with no minimum load requirement; and the 12-volt DC output can be paralleled for higher power and fail-safe redundancy.
