Boeing signs MoU to establish avionics repair, maintenance and overhaul center in Korea

F-15K Slam EagleDAEGU, Republic of Korea, 5 Sept. 2012. Boeing [NYSE: BA] and the Korean province of Gyeongsangbuk-do and the city of Yeongcheon have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish an avionics maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in the region that will service avionics components for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) fleet of F-15K Slam Eagles.

The facility, which will be located in the Yeongcheon Industry District of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone, will help support the area's Aero Techno Valley vision of a high-tech aerospace industry corridor and expanded in-country avionics capabilities. The location is close to Daegu Air Force Base and is suited for the Slam Eagle work as part of Boeing's performance-based logistics (PBL) program.

Boeing completed the on-schedule, on-cost delivery of F-15K Slam Eagles to the ROKAF in April. The company continues to support the ROKAF fleet through a long-term PBL sustainment contract. Korean supplier-partner Hyundai Glovis provides the in-country logistics handling and supply chain distribution for the F-15K PBL program.

The F-15K is the Korean version of the F-15 Strike Eagle, nicknamed as the Slam Eagle. The Slam Eagle includes the advanced AN/APG-63(V)1 radar, ALQ-135M electronic countermeasures, a third generation targeting and navigation FLIR, an infrared search and track for air-to-air engagements, an ALR-56C(V)1 warning system, and JHMCS helmet-mounted displays.
