CHELMSFORD, Mass., 16 Oct. 2012. Mercury Computer Systems Inc. in Chelmsford, Mass., is introducing the Echotek series SCFE-V6-4QSFP-OVPX 6U OpenVPX fiber I/O module for high-bandwidth digitized I/O military and commercial embedded computing applications that involve intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors.

The module combines 16 channels of high-speed fiber with three of Xilinx Virtex-6 field programmable gate array (FPGA) processors, and has a maximum data transfer capacity of 80 gigabits per second.

Each of the 16 channels of fiber supports a duplex data rate as fast as 5 gigabits per second, while the three FPGAs enable on-board preprocessing of data streams. The fiber channels are supported on two Optical Interface FPGA Mezzanine Cards (FMCs); each FMC has two 4x QSFP connections supporting eight channels of 2.5 gigabit-per-second Serial FPDP or two channels of 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

The FPGAs can be configured with intellectual property to enable signal processing algorithms and protocol implementations. A serial RapidIO backplane connection provides high-speed communication with other subsystem modules.
