ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga., 27 Feb. 2013. U.S. Air Force officials are placing an urgent order to VarTech Systems Inc. in Baton, Rouge, La., for 27 of the company's VT201R 20.1-inch rack-mount liquid crystal display (LCD) panels for an upgrade to avionics test benches for the Boeing F-15 jet fighter aircraft.

The Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base, Ga., have announced their intention to award a sole-source order to VarTech for the rugged displays for the F-15 avionics test bench upgrade. The value of the contract has yet to be negotiated, and the Air Force needs the rugged displays by 5 March.

The F-15 avionics test benches use software developed specifically for the VarTech Systems rack-mount display, and choosing a different product would incur significant software development and testing which would increase cost and time for re-work, Air Force officials say.

The VarTech VT201R rack-mount LCD monitor has a UXGA resolution of 1,600 by 1,200 pixels, and is a thin and light-weight display, Air Force officials say. This model combines 8U height with low weight to provide a unique, rugged display solution, especially for applications where space and weight are critical.

The display are designed to withstand harsh ambient environments and has enhanced shock and vibration safeguards, and have bright 300 nits candela per square meter (cd/m2), high-contrast and meets NEMA 4 (IP65) guidelines.

The VarTech VT201R displays have bonded (VBOND) protective glass overlay or touch screen with sealed waterproof gasket; conformal coating of all internal circuit boards; video inputs of HD15(F), DVI-D Pin, composite BNC, mini din (S-video); MIL-DLT-38999 Series III power connector; high contrast ratio and definition, vivid color and image quality; machined rugged black powder-coated rack bezel; wide color gamut; 16.8 million colors; energy efficient, low power consumption; high environmental performance and reliability; operational temperature range of -20 to 50 degrees Celsius; complies with FCC Class B; and is RoHS compliant.
