MacDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla., 6 Feb. 2013. Tactical networking experts at iGov in Reston, Va., will provide U.S. Special Operations forces with network-centric warfare capability under terms of a $500 million contract announced Monday from U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
The contract calls for iGov experts to provide the Tactical Local Area Network (TACLAN) family of systems acquisition, design, integration, production, and delivery in support of U.S. Special Operations Command. iGov is the TACLAN prime systems integrator.
TACLAN enables network-centric warfare capabilities by interconnecting deployed warfighters through a mobile information technology (IT) infrastructure and applications.
Inteconnected forces via TACLAN can include soldiers and teams or joint task force at the headquarters level, and can consist of the tactical equivalent of a garrison network, such as the Non-Classified Internet Protocol Router (NIPR), Secure Internet Protocol Router (SIPR), or the Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System (JWICS).
The TACLAN program supports military IT functions such as operations planning and reporting; readiness and unit status monitoring; mission rehearsal and execution; personnel support; orders dissemination and force execution; mission planning and analysis; intelligence analysis and reporting; and logistics planning and tracking.
The TACLAN system also provides various types of servers for deployed networks to include an exchange server for email. TACLAN expands services in a tactical deployed environment.
The IT infrastructure capabilities of iGov use traditional commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) products to provide services such as worldwide rollout; complex systems integration; consolidation and virtualization; rugged capability; disaster recovery, quick response and continuity of operation; and multi-layered networking, iGov officials say.
The iGov contract is a single award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, on which iGov will do the work in Tampa, Fla.
