Navy specifies replacement DC-DC converters from Pico Electronics for avionics flight control

U.S. Navy avionics experts needed 100 spare DC-DC converter power supplies for the aircraft flight control systems of the Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion long-range maritime patrol aircraft and the Sikorsky H-53 heavy-lift helicopter. U.S. Navy avionics experts needed 100 spare DC-DC converter power supplies for the aircraft flight control systems of the Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion long-range maritime patrol aircraft and the Sikorsky H-53 heavy-lift helicopter. They are recommending a solution from Pico Electronics Inc. in Pelham, N.Y.

Officials of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division in Keyport, Wash., issued a solicitation Tuesday (N0025313T0306) for 100 18-to-60-volt-input DC-DC converters for the aircraft flight-control systems. Their recommended solution is the IRC5D dual-output power supply from Pico Electronics.

These power electronics devices must operate in temperatures from -25 to 70 degrees Celsius; operate at a frequency of 40 KHz; have an output voltage of 5 volts and output Wattage of five Watts. Each unit, furthermore, must measure 1.8 by 3.3 by 0.5 inches and weigh 95 grams. Certification back to original manufacturer is required.

Any component other than the one listed must be qualified for use in the end item assembly prior to acceptance for use in this application. This qualification includes environmental qualification testing as specified in NUWC document 224-01606, as well as flight testing.

The Navy needs these power supplies by 28 June 2013. Companies interested in bidding for this job should respond no later than 29 May 2013, which is next Wednesday.
