ASHBURN, Va., 6 June 2013. Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the CompactPCI D2D 7-slot 3/4 air transport rack (ATR) conduction-cooled chassis to help engineers develop 3U CompactPCI-based embedded computing systems in demanding SWAP-C constrained military, aerospace, and first-responder applications.

The rugged chassis brings the company's development-to-deployment (D2D) approach to CompactPCI to reduce risk, schedule, and cost. The D2D chassis enables the system integrator to use the same enclosure throughout the program lifecycle, from development to deployment.

The CompactPCI D2D 3/4 ATR chassis supports 0. 8-inch pitch slot cards and comes in three standard configurations to speed system development and reduce costs.

The development version eliminates the need for a custom CompactPCI backplane before system design can begin. It uses a standard COTS backplane and I/O cabling, an external power supply, and an industrial grade fan.

The demonstration configurations have a standard COTS power supply backplane cabled to a standard backplane, with either an industrial grade fan or a military-grade fan; a 3U MIL COTS power supply also is available.

The application-specific deploy configuration replaces the standard backplanes and cables with a custom backplane and I/O panel, and upgrades the industrial fans to MIL-grade units.

The rugged D2D 3/4 ATR enclosure supports as many as seven slots of 3U 0. 8" pitch payload CompactPCI cards. The D2D 3/4 ATR simplifies the integration process by providing one enclosure that can be used equally well for in-lab development and fielded deployment.
