Intel-based COM Express boards for graphics and display control offered by MSC Embedded

SAN BRUNO, Calif., 10 July 2013. MSC Embedded Inc. in San Bruno, Calif., is introducing MSC C6B-7S COM Express Type 6 embedded computing boards for sophisticated applications with 3D graphics, high-resolution videos, the control of large screen displays and for all systems demanding highest processor performance.

MSC offers MSC C6B-7S modules based on third-generation Intel Core processors with three different Celeron variants and integrated Intel HD Graphics. The Intel Celeron CPU 1047UE with 1.4 GHz has two cores and 2-megabyte cache.

The single-core Intel Celeron 927UE (1.5 GHz) integrates 1-megabyte cache. Both processors have a thermal dissipation power (TDP) of 17 Watts. The dual-core Intel Celeron processor 1020E is clocked with 2.20 GHz and has 2-megabyte cache. The TDP is 35 Watts.

The Celeron modules integrate the Intel HM76 PCH chip set. Dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM modules (two SO-DIMM sockets) with a maximum storage capacity of 16 gigabytes can be plugged in.

The MSC C6B-7S modules offer four USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces each. Besides the seven PCI Express x1 channels, the modules have a PCI Express graphics (PEG) x16 interface, HD audio and a Gigabit Ethernet interface.

For the connection of high-resolution displays, the modules allow for access to the digital display interfaces DisplayPort and HDMI with a resolution to 2560-by-1600 pixels.

Data can be stored via four SATA II channels at up to 300 megabytes per second or on a NAND flash SSD that can be optionally populated. An on-board plug for a speed-controlled fan on a special cooling solution permits the implementation of quiet systems for environments that are sensitive to noise.

For evaluation and quick design-in of the COM Express module family, MSC supplies universal baseboards and starter kits. The platform runs under the operating systems Windows 7, Windows Embedded Standard 7, Windows 8 and Linux. The AMI UEFI firmware has been implemented on the boards.
