NEUHAUSEN, Switzerland, 7 Aug. 2013.Vetronics designers at Lockheed Martin UK in Ampthill, England, needed a turret drive servo system for a major upgrade to the British Army's FV510 Warrior armored vehicles. They found their solution from Curtiss-Wright Controls Drive Technology in Neuhausen, Switzerland.
Curtiss-Wright has received a contract from Lockheed Martin UK to provide the Turret Drive Servo System (TDSS) for the United Kingdom's Warrior Capability Sustainment Program.
Curtiss-Wright's TDSS provides weapon stabilization for the Warrior combat vehicle, which will extend the British Army's Fighting Vehicle Capability for at least 20 more years, Curtiss-Wright officials say.
The new turret drive servo system is part of a major $1.53 billion upgrade program announced in late 2011 to extend the service life of the Warrior tracked combat vehicle through 2040.
Lockheed Martin UK will upgrade hundreds of Warrior combat vehicles, which will be fitted with an improved turrets and new stabilized 40-millimeter cannon enabling them to fire more accurately while on the move. The Warrior upgrade program that Lockheed Martin UK is carrying out also will involve a new armor mounting system.
The Curtiss-Wright turret drive servo system is part of the Warrior's turret upgrade. The initial contract, which covers the demonstration phase of the program and includes an option for production deliveries, began in December 2012 and continues through December 2015.
The Warrior is an upgraded, medium-weight infantry fighting vehicle designed for deployment on rapid intervention, enduring peacekeeping and peace enforcement operations, and for support to high intensity, major combat operations.
