BLUE BELL, Pa., 22 Sept. 2013. MEN Micro Inc. in Blue Bell, Pa., is introducing h the BL50W maintenance-free box PC for wireless applications. Its compact, rugged structure is for a wide range of mobile environments including planes, trains, buses, construction, and agricultural machines.

Equipped with four PCI Express Mini Card slots that control as many as eight SIM cards and a GPS interface, the BL50W can implement wireless functions such as WLAN, UMTS, GPS, GSM, HSDPA, EDGE, and LTE. The rugged computer also offers user-specific I/O, nine antenna slots, and conduction cooling.

The box PC can operate as a content server or hot-spot server, and also can be used as a diagnostic interface or for fleet management as well as to implement vehicle-to-control center communications or for internet access in a train or airplane.

The BL50W is based on the T48N AMD Embedded G-Series accelerated processing unit (APU) with a core frequency of 1.4 GHz. The unit provides graphics via two DisplayPorts with HD resolution. If users need different graphics performance or power consumption, they can choose any Embedded G-Series APU.

In addition to two Gigabit Ethernet channels available on M12 connectors, the unit includes two USB 2.0 ports and five slots for serial I/O or CAN bus as well as universal inputs and relay outputs. 2 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, an SD card, and an mSATA slot provide data storage.

The design separates the CPU inside the BL50W from the interface board for adaption of the I/O according to user needs. The BL50W is designed for fanless operation in temperatures from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
