SANTA CLARA, Calif., 8 Jan. 2014. Executives of test & measurement specialist Agilent Technologies Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif., say they plan to spin off an electronic measurement company next fall and will name the new company Keysight Technologies.

Keysight will concentrate on electronic test and measurement for the aerospace and defense, wireless data, industrial, computer, and semiconductor industries. The company will include Agilent electronic measurement products, sales, and support.

Expected to become a standalone company in early November 2014, Keysight will set up headquarters in Santa Rosa, Calif., and have about 9,500 employees in 30 countries.

The name Keysight conveys the ability to see what others cannot, offering the key insights to understand changing technology, Agilent officials say. The new company's tagline, "unlocking measurement insights for 75 years," commemorates the 1939 birth of the original Hewlett-Packard Company, from which Keysight originated.

Agilent is involved in chemical analysis, life sciences, diagnostics, electronics, and communications. The company's 20,600 employees serve customers in more than 100 countries. Agilent had revenues of $6.8 billion in fiscal 2013.
