Low-power DC-DC power electronics modules for harsh environments introduced by Murata

MANSFIELD, Mass., 6 Feb. 2014. Murata Power Solutions in Mansfield, Mass., is introducing the SPM series of low power isolated DC-DC modules for electronics that operate in harsh environments with little or no forced-air cooling, such as outdoor communications, industrial process control, and smart grid and equipment.

The SPM15 power electronics series is for applications that require input voltage ranges of 9 to 36 volts or 18 to 75 volts at 15 Watts. The SPM25 series covers applications that require input voltages of 36 to 75 volts at 25 Watts.

These five-sided shielded, encapsulated converters measure 25.4 by 25.4 by 10.41 millimeters and offer an industry standard footprint, incorporate the latest PWM technologies, automated assembly processes ,and synchronous rectification techniques to achieve energy efficiency ratings of 88 percent, company officials say.

A thermally conductive encapsulation material improves thermal performance in applications where there is little or no airflow. The package also resists dirt, dust, vibration, and temperature extremes.

The SPM15 and SPM25 series provides single output voltages of 3.3, 5, or 12 volts DC. In addition, the SPM15 has a 15 volts DC output option.

The SPM15 is available with two input range options of 9 to 36 volts DC or 18 to 75 volts DC. The SPM25 accommodates an input range around a 48 volts DC nominal from 36 to 75 volts DC. The operating temperature range is from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
