ANDOVER, Mass., 21 Feb. 2014. TTTech North America Inc. in Andover, Mass., is introducing an Avionics Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX) switch in 3U VPX form factor for embedded computing architectures in aerospace systems.

The rugged, small, and lightweight switch is for Size-, Weight-, and Power (SWaP)-constrained avionics designs in future aircraft. SWaP is critical for complying to operational life and budgetary constraints, company officials say.

The 16-port AFDX switch also comes in a variant that supports two more standard traffic classes (IEEE 802.3 and SAE AS6802) besides ARINC 664 p7 that can be used in parallel on the same network.

The switch has maximum power consumption of less than 19 Watts. AFDX compatibility allows for seamless integration into existing 10/100-megabit-per-second AFDX networks.

All of TTTech's different 3U VPX switches comply to the MIL-STD-810G aerospace standard. The switches operate under harsh environmental conditions withstanding forces of to 40 G, vibrations of 2000 Hz, and temperatures to 85 degrees Celsius.
