Secure solid-state drives with encryption, fast erase, and self-destruct introduced by Microsemi

PHOENIX, 15 April 2015. Microsemi Corp. in Phoenix is introducing a secure 64-gigabyte solid state drive (SSD) for embedded computing in harsh environments where data protection is of the utmost importance.

The secure data storage device can overcome malicious attack concerns with Microsemi's factory firmware lockdown technology to prevent covert firmware repurposing. Offered in a 32-by-28-millimeter ball grid array (BGA) package, the SSD is a self-encrypting drive.

For sensitive applications, the encryption key can be erased in less than 30 milliseconds and a second security layer can be activated to erase the entire storage media in less than 10 seconds, virtually rendering data forensically unrecoverable.

The drives have several modes of key management, including loadable AES encryption keys; DS-101 key fill port with KEK and black key support; optional hardware authentication; fast erase capability; industrial temperature range operation; ; obsolescence management; fast sanitization speed; and self-destruct capability.
