ASHBURN, Va., 25 June 2015. The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the 3U OpenVPX VPX3-1259, the 6U OpenVPX VPX6-1959, and the 6U VME VME-1909 computer boards for aerospace and defense applications.

Based on the introduced 5th Gen Intel Core i7 processor (former codename "Broadwell-H"), the rugged COTS modules enable designers of rugged embedded systems to take advantage of the performance of the 5th Gen Intel Core i7 processor architecture.

Designed for the most demanding defense and aerospace rugged deployed systems, the embedded computers are for next-generation mission computers, radar processing and imaging systems, and a wide range of C4ISR applications.

All members of the 5th Gen Intel Core i7 embedded computer family are pin-compatible with the previous generation of Curtiss-Wright Intel embedded computer modules for system upgrades. The VPX3-1259, VPX6-1959, and VME-1909 are scheduled for availability this fall.

These boards also incorporate advanced cooling technologies specifically for Intel's 14-nanometer technology. The computer boards will be available in a range of ruggedized configurations, including air-cooled, conduction-cooled, and air flow-through versions.

The VPX3-1259 is a 3U OpenVPX module for use in the small packages. It has a high speed PCI Express (PCI Express) Gen3 interface to the backplane.

The VPX6-1959 is a 6U VPX module that delivers 10G/40G Ethernet or InfiniBand data plane interfaces in addition to its PCI Express Gen3 Expansion Plane interface. The VME-1909, meanwhile, is a 6U VME module and includes support for legacy VME bus systems.

The Intel 5th Gen Core i7 processor delivers higher CPU and graphics performance than previous generations, while offering the same power saving has made available across the Core i7 product line.
