CHATSWORTH, Calif., 25 Aug. 2016. Aitech Defense Systems Inc. in Chatsworth, Calif., is introducing three rugged, 3U VPX switches for high-throughput military embedded computing applications like command, control, communications, intelligence, and surveillance.

The managed C690 and unmanaged C691 incorporate Gigabit Ethernet and PCI Express switching, while the C695 has PCI Express switching only. The switches couple high data throughput with low switch latency to make the most of data transfers across VPX cards data across VPX cards.

For managed Gigabit Ethernet switching, the C690 uses the Marvell Prestera 98DX4122 running Marvell routing and management operating system. As an unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet switch, the C691 has the Marvell Prestera 98DX106.

Both switches come in three standard port configurations: eight 1000Base-BX/KX; six 1000Base-BX/KX with two 1000Base-T; or five 1000Base-T. Full-wire-speed non-blocking forwarding enables stable high-throughput data transfers.

All three boards handle PCI Express switching via an IDT 89H32NT24AG2 Gen 2 switch for speeds of as many as 5 billion data transfers per second with low latency switching Integrated DMA engines facilitate the fast data transfer. Users can make allocations for as many as eight transparent and non-transparent ports on each switch.

The user-configurable on-board EEPROM memory can enable as many as 20 ports or 24 lanes on the C690 and C691. The C695 can accommodate as many as 24 ports or 32 lanes.

The C695 has an optional on-board XMC site that routes I/O to the backplane, and has two standard port configurations: eight PCI Express x4 or six PCI Express 4x with an XMC site that includes a PCI Express x8 interface.

The managed Gigabit Ethernet on the C690 provides configurable L2 and L3 management for increased system security, control, and scalability across the data link and network layers. The switch boots in five seconds to L2 and in less than 90 seconds for a L3 configuration boot with routing tables.

An additional 1000Base-T port on the front panel is available in air-cooled versions of the unmanaged C691. The switch does not require user configuration, and provides Gigabit Ethernet L2 switching and powers up in less than 2 seconds.

All three OpenVPX-compliant switches have slot profiles matched to their specific I/O variants and are shock- and vibration-resistant. Air-cooled, conduction-cooled, and conduction-cooled 2LM versions are available for commercial, rugged, and military installations.
