MTSI to build missile-defense threat assessment system to evaluate missile attacks

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala., 5 Aug. 2016. U.S. missile-defense experts needed a system to help analysts assess potential missile attacks on the U.S. and its allies. They found their missile-defensethreat assessment solution from Modern Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) in Alexandria, Va.

Officials of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., announced a $9 million contract to MTSI on Thursday to develop the Robust Adaptive Threat Characterization system for missile defense.

The system will help missile-defense forces assess the nature, magnitude, and intent of an attack in progress. It will help appraise the worth credibility, reliability, and accuracy of intelligence and sensor information. Such information can help missile-defense forces plan for resource allocation, assess risks, evaluate attack scenarios and simulations.

The contract calls for MTSI to conduct integrated threat characterization by designing, developing, prototyping, and testing the Robust Adaptive Threat Characterization system.

MTSI experts will deliver data verification; data association; data exploitation; contextual and environmental classification; cognitive fusion framework; and integrated threat-characterization suite.

MTSI is in business to provide technical services in ballistic missile and air defense, air vehicle survivability, unmanned aircraft, flight test operations, software engineering, intelligence support, cyber, space, and homeland defense.

The company has more than 650 employees -- more than 120 of them dedicated to missile defense, company officials say. MTSI is developing next-generation weapon systems and modeling and simulation capabilities.

MTSI has been developing the MDA's Integrated Master Test Plan program since 2009 to define a complex $1.5-billion-per-year test program. The company also plays an integral role in developing an advanced kill vehicle for the MDA's Ground Based Missile Defense System.

MTSI scientists have developed advanced tracking and discrimination algorithms to improve space, airborne, and kill vehicle sensor performance.
