LIBERTY, S.C., 6 Sept. 2016. Cornell Dubilier Electronics Inc. in Liberty, S.C., is introducing the Slimpack type MLSH hermetically sealed aluminum electrolytic capacitors for military and aerospace power electronics applications that operate in harsh environments.

The device has a glass-to-metal seal to prevent dry-out and ensure long live. The hermetic Slimpack is a spin-off of the non-hermetic Flatpack series that the company has been supplying to military and aerospace customers for more than 20 years.

Company engineers intend this technology to replace parallel and series banks of wet tantalum capacitors for and existing designs, especially where bulk storage is paramount.

The MLSH Slimpack measures 1 by 1.5 by 0.5 inches and will have more capacitance than a parallel bank of three or more wet tantalum capacitors as at -55 degrees Celsius.

High capacitance at low temperature is a key requirement for power supplies used in military and aerospace applications, officials say. The technology is expected to have a significantly lower cost than a comparable bank of wet tantalum capacitors.

Cornell Dubilier's hermetic MLSH Slimpack aluminum electrolytic capacitors are available from distributors Digi-Key Electronics in Thief River Falls, Minn.; Mouser Electronics in Mansfield, Texas; and TTI Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas.
