HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 22 Nov. 2016. Executives of embedded computing specialist Abaco Systems in Huntsville, Ala., are boosting their company's expertise in digital signal processing (DSP) with their acquisition of 4DSP LLC of Austin, Texas.
4DSP designs and manufactures commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) high speed DSP and data-acquisition solutions based on field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology for aerospace, defense, biomedical, communications, and semiconductor applications.
This is the second acquisition for Abaco in less than a week's time. On 17 Nov. Abaco officials enhanced their company's expertise in rapidly configurable embedded computing I/O mezzanine cards with their acquisition of the Micro Mezzanine System (MMS) line from Technobox Inc. of West Berlin, N.J.
Financial details of the 4DSP and Technobox acquisitions were not released.

4DSP specializes in DSP technology for applications such as image processing, software defined radio, radar, sonar, airborne surveillance, and medical imaging. 4DSP also offers engineering services like developing custom hardware, FPGA firmware and software, and turn-key solutions.
The company's core products include FPGA Mezzanine Cards (FMC); FPGA boards; IP cores and software tools; and integrated Systems. The acquisition underscores Abaco's plans to offer mission-ready systems based on open-architectures that reduce risk and accelerate time to deployment, Abaco officials say.
The 4DSP acquisition "substantially strengthens Abaco's signal processing portfolio," says Abaco CEO Bernie Anger. "This move will be very beneficial for current 4DSP customers, who will benefit from accelerated investments in expansion of 4DSP's signal processing portfolio and additional field support resources."
