CHATSWORTH, Calif. – Aitech Defense Systems Inc. in Chatsworth, Calif., is introducing the E905 three-slot cold-plate-cooled space-rated embedded computing enclosure for mission-critical space applications.

Built on a 3U CompactPCI platform using machined aluminum, the E905 has a customizable front panel that accommodates user-specific I/O, with I/O transition module that eliminates intermediate wires and harnesses.

The cold-plate-cooled E905 channels heat to specially designed side walls, enabling dissipation of more than 65 Watts, even when the unit houses as many as three 3U CompactPCI boards, from single-board computers, graphics and video cards, to Gigabit Ethernet switches, and a modular 3U power supply.

A removable 3U power supply, with an input range of 20 to 36 volts DC, provides continuous high-current, high-efficiency operation. Tested to withstand adverse spacecraft conditions, this power supply is latch-up immune to more than 37 MeV*cm2/mg and withstands a total ionization dose (TID) of more than 25 kilorads (Si), with an efficiency of more than 80 percent. Standard total output is 140 Watts or optionally 150 Watts using an Aitech P230 power supply.

EMI/RFI power line filtering via a Faraday cage shields output and input from high voltage spike transients and noise. The filtering also provides the outputs with protection from short circuits, thermal breakdown, and overshoot, while inputs withstand reverse polarity via the chassis.

Mean time between failure (MTBF) at 50 degrees Celsius is more than 693,088 hours for space flight and more than 115,000 hours for missile launch.

Weighing less than 9 pounds unpopulated, the new E905 is designed for optimum SWaP. It measures 7.6 by 6.65 by 7.7 inches with mounting flanges. The unit's width drops to 4.88 inches without the mounting flanges.
