Lockheed Martin uses software to manage risk on F-35 project

July 1, 2005

Engineers at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Fort Worth, Texas, needed a software tool to manage business risks for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. They found a solution with Active Risk Manager from Strategic Thought, U.K.

Active Risk Manager is a Web-based enterprise risk management system that facilitates the identification and analysis of risks to ensure compliance with project and operational guidelines, corporate governance requirements, and industry standards. Lockheed Martin and many of its suppliers have been using Active Risk Manager since July 2001.

The F-35 is a stealthy, supersonic multi-role fighter designed to replace a wide range of aging fighter and strike aircraft. In addition to the United States Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, F-35 is being developed for the United Kingdom Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, the Canadian Department of National Defence and eight other nations. The JSF program is the largest defense contract to be awarded in history, with a value of just under $19 billion.

Founded in 1987 in the U.K., Strategic Thought is a technology and services company specializing in mission-critical application integration and the provision of enterprise risk management software. For more information, see www.strategicthought.com.
