BAE tests F-35 cables with DCM tools

July 1, 2005

Engineers at BAE Systems in Lancashire, England, needed test and measurement equipment to verify coaxial cable assemblies for their customer, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. They found a solution with the Model HPCC-3000 test system from DCM Industries Inc. in Union City, Calif.,

Technicians with BAE Systems will use the DCM HPCC-3000 System to test the JSF aft fuselage assemblies under construction at the Samlesbury Design and Manufacturing Centre Aerodrome plant in the United Kingdom.

This system automates vector-network-analyzer (VNA) insertion-loss and VSWR testing of high-performance coaxial cables. Untrained testers can use DCM’s graphical user interface combined with an Agilent 20-gigahertz PNA network analyzer and the HPCC-3000 system to measure any type and combination of connectors and extract adapter errors using built-in de-embedding techniques.

The system includes secure frequency testing capability, extensive database and test reporting functions, and VNA calibration management. A specification editor automatically controls VNA operation, instructs VNA which test to perform, compares the results to the test limits, prints test reports, and stores data. The system includes secured classified operation, with password protection and frequency blanking. For more information, see www.dcmindustries.com.
