DC-DC converter module market could reach $5.4 billion by 2010

January 1, 2006

The worldwide market for DC-DC converter modules will increase from $3.3 billion in 2005 to $5.4 billion in 2010, according to the analyst firm Research and Markets.

Several trends are driving this growth, which represents a compound annual growth rate of 10.5 percent. Factors include:

  • faster-than-expected adoption of the intermediate bus architecture (IBA),
  • fast growth in the server segments, particularly strong VRM sales in North America, and
  • equipment based on the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA or ATCA) standard coming to market after two years of rather slow adoption.

This report provides estimates of the potential worldwide market for DC-DC converters in units, dollars and pricing from 2005 to 2010, by application, wattage, input and output voltage and product type. It also predicts the dollar market for low-wattage power versus high-wattage power, design type and amperage.

The report forecasts markets growth for four application segments: military/aerospace, communications, computers, and industrial.

Power-level forecasts include the following:

  • wattage (Less than 50 W segments: <4, 4-12, 13-24, 25-49 W; greater than 50 W segments: 50-99, 100-249, 250-500, >500 W);
  • amperage (<1, 1-4, 5-9, 10-49, 50-100, >100 Amps);
  • input voltage (3.3, 5, 12, 24, 48, 270 V+);
  • output voltage (1.0 V and Below, 1.5, 2.5, 3.3, 5, >5 V);
  • isolated vs. nonisolated converters;
  • custom vs. standard products.

Overall, the report covers forecasts of nine topics: power level, wattage, amperage, input voltage, output voltage, product type, application, communications sub-segment, and computer sub-segment.

The paper is titled DC-DC Converter Modules: Worldwide Market Forecasts. This is a power paper including quantitative worldwide forecasts and discussion from the eighth edition of the market study called DC-DC Converter Modules: Global Market Forecasts and Competitive Environment.
