Sikorsky selects Rockwell Collins’ avionics management system for CH-53K

November 1, 2006

Sikorsky of Stratford, Conn., was in the market for an avionics management system for the U.S. Marine Corps’ new CH-53K Heavy Lift Replacement helicopter. It settled on the Avionics Management System (AMS) from Rockwell Collins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Rockwell Collins AMS infuses the CH-53K helicopter with a modular, open-system architecture cockpit and mission management system. The system integrates flight and navigation displays, and such network-centric capabilities as tactical data-link integration, correlation, and data fusion.

The AMS in the CH-53K is designed to reduce crew workloads in the demanding tactical environment by providing a communication, navigation, surveillance, and air-traffic-management solution.

“These solutions not only enhance the warfighter’s situational awareness, but provide the military with an affordable path for future growth as new technologies are introduced,” Woody Hogle, vice president and general manager of Integrated Systems for Rockwell Collins, says.
