Raytheon contracts LaBarge to provide F-22 Raptor backplane assembly

November 1, 2006

LaBarge Inc. in St. Louis has manufactured backplane assemblies for Raytheon since 2002. Executives at Raytheon Company’s Space and Airborne Systems in El Segundo, Calif., have issued a contract, valued at $5.5 million, to LaBarge for the continued production of backplane assemblies for the F-22 Raptor.

The F-22 Raptor is a stealth fighter plane developed by prime contractor Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Air Force.

The LaBarge-built backplane assemblies, integrated into the F-22’s common integrated processor (CIP), route electronic and fiber optic signals for the mission avionics suite. The CIP employs fiber optics and high-speed integrated circuit technology to fuse and convert data into a clear picture of the combat situation. The pilot benefits from a reduced workload and enhanced situational awareness.

Production on the contract will be performed at the company’s Joplin, Mo., facility, and take place from January 2007 through spring 2007. For more information, visit www.labarge.com.
