Barco to provide rugged display workstations for BAE Systems NLOS-cannon early prototypes

Systems designers at BAE Systems Land & Armaments LP in Fridley, Minn., needed rugged displays for prototypes of the future U.S. Army Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Cannon early prototypes.

They found their solution from Barco in Duluth, Ga., which will supply 17-inch displays and computers, which incorporate backlighting using LED technology, while the computers integrate small and sealed desktop graphics boards.

The displays and computers are mounted together to form a small workstation core, Barco officials say.

The NLOS-Cannon early prototypes are 155 mm, self-propelled cannon systems for the Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. Each system will receive four display workstations configured in a two-member crew station.

The NLOS-Cannon early prototypes are the lead systems for the Boeing/SAIC led Future Combat Systems Manned Ground Vehicle program and will be delivered for developmental testing beginning in 2008.

“We are working hard to design products that fully meet the needs of the Future Combat Systems program and are fully committed to internal development to show our capabilities and willingness to support the Integrated Product Teams and the U.S. Army,” says Mike Forde, ice president of Barco Federal Systems.

The selected 17-inch display was in design prior to this program selection as part of Barco’s efforts to invest in the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems program, Forde says.
