L-3 modernizes embedded system with Aonix virtual machine

June 1, 2006

The L-3 Communications Telemetry-West division in New York is upgrading its System 550 real-time data acquisition system with products from Aonix of San Diego.

A commercial-off-the-shelf product, the System 550 embedded system provides data acquisition, processing, distribution, analysis, and archiving for applications ranging from avionics test and integration to satellite command and control to space communications.

L-3 Communications is updating its System 550 by replacing the existing Java virtual machine with the Aonix PERC virtual machine. The PERC clean-room solution is designed to infuse System 550 with improved performance, compatibility with Java Standard Edition, and expanded support for off-the-shelf components.

The Aonix PERC virtual machine was developed for demanding embedded and real-time systems that require compatibility with J2SE. It provides Java developers with AOT and JIT compilation, remote debug support, standard graphics, garbage collection, and extended support of commercial RTOS and target processors, including the PowerPC, XScale, ARM, and Intel x86.
