4U VITA 31.1 chassis for Gigabit Ethernet applications

July 1, 2006

Elma Electronic Inc. in Fremont, Calif., is offering a 4U Type 15 VITA 31.1 chassis with an eight-slot Dual Star backplane conforming to the VITA 31.1 specification for Gigabit Ethernet applications. The chassis features advanced EMC shielding to meet CE and FCC needs. The cooling configuration is front to rear with 2-by-70-cubic-foot-per-second fans. There are optional configurations for front-loading 500-watt power supplies, and up to four 5.25-inch HH devices. System monitoring for DC voltages, fan-fail and over-temp are also optional. The chassis has two fabric slots and six node slots. The node slots are backwards compatible to VME64x. Other features of the backplane include an automatic active daisy chain, passive inboard termination, and M3/M4 power bolts for power. It also meets the VITA 1.7 increased current specification. VITA 31.1 adopts the PICMG 2.16 P3 connector pin out for use on VME64x boards. It also incorporates the definition of the fabric card described in PICMG 2.16 for Gigabit Ethernet. VITA 31.1 systems and PICMG 2.16-compliant systems can use the same switched fabric boards. For more information contact Elma Electronic online at www.elma.com.
