Mercury Computer Systems selects Wind River platform for Ensemble2

Mercury Computer Systems of Chelmsford, Mass., sought a reliable and scalable platform for its Ensemble2 AdvancedTCS-based system.

Ensemble2 is designed to enable users to develop, evaluate, and deploy their applications on the same platform. To that end, Mercury has selected the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition, from Wind River in Alameda, Calif., for its Ensemble2 application platform.

Ensemble2 takes advantage of RapidIO, Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, AdvancedTCA, and AdvancedMC technologies. Mercury has chosen to add to that list Wind River’s commercial-quality, Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) platform, which aids software developers in standardizing on one development suite for all of their device software projects.

Mercury executives selected the Wind River platform given the companies’ shared commitment to Linux and open standards, in addition to the solution’s CGL capabilities, company officials say.

“Device manufacturers are building increasingly connected, complex devices, and products are now being differentiated through device software innovation,” notes Glenn Seiler, product line manager, Linux Platforms, at Wind River. “Selecting Wind River for Ensemble2 enables Mercury’s customers to develop and run device software faster, better, at lower cost, and more reliably.”

The Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition, is compatible with popular telecommunications boards, ensuring its suitability for high-end data networking and communications applications. Wind River’s solution boasts a standards-based interprocess communication mechanism, capable of connecting Linux and VxWorks editions of the platform, as well as supports the emerging PICMG 3.x ATCA specification.
