Nufern adds 25-micron-core-diameter fibers to its family of products

January 1, 2007

Nufern in East Granby, Conn., announced the expansion of its ytterbium-doped double-clad-fiber product line. Nufern’s new LMA-YDF-25/250 and PLMA-YDF-25/250 offer geometries and properties that compliment the previously released LMA-YDF-30/250 and PLMA-YDF-30/250 double-clad fibers for pulsed-fiber-amplifier applications in which maintaining excellent beam quality is absolutely critical. As with all Nufern double-clad fibers, these fibers are proof-tested to 100 kpsi, ensuring long-term reliability when coiling the fiber for mode filtering.

“Customers have been asking us to introduce a large-mode-area (LMA) fiber that more readily delivers diffraction-limited beam quality,” explains Kanishka Tankala, vice president of operations at Nufern. “As the technology has matured and people have moved from lab-based research into product development, we have noticed a shift toward fiber designs that are more robust in terms of delivering good beam quality. These new additions to our family of double-clad fibers are specifically designed to facilitate that move. In particular, the two 25-mm-core fibers are aimed at pulsed-fiber devices producing high peak powers, while maintaining an LMA fiber design that can operate robustly in the fundamental mode and deliver good beam quality.”

Nufern designs, manufactures, sells and supports fiber-intensive subassemblies and specialty optical fibers for various industries. For more information, visit www.nufern.com.
