Embraer selects CMC Electronics’ PilotView Electronic Flight Bag

February 1, 2007

Leaders of commercial jet manufacturer Embraer in São José dos Campos, Brazil, needed an electronic method to enhance cockpit procedures on the company’s Legacy 600, E-Jets family, and Lineage 1000 aircraft. They found their solution in the PilotView Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) from CMC Electronics in Montreal.

“After an extensive evaluation, we have selected the CMC PilotView as the EFB to equip our aircraft,” says Mauro Kern, Embraer vice president of airline programs. “With the EFB system, our commercial E-Jets and our Legacy 600 and Lineage 1000 business jets will offer customers a modern tool that will enhance cockpit procedures by bringing flexibility, precision and optimization to pilots’ dispatch and inflight activities.”

CMC’s PilotView EFB provides access to aircraft documentation and flight planning information such as en-route and approach charts, moving map display, and real-time graphical weather information. It has a display/processor unit with wireless connection. Qualification to RTCA DO-160D and a design with no moving parts guarantees continued operation in all phases of flight.

An 8.4-inch active-matrix liquid crystal display offers readability in all cockpit ambient light conditions. In addition to line select keys and a convenient integrated keyboard, the PilotView EFB offers a “film-on-glass” touch-sensitive screen providing pilots with a choice when accessing or navigating through EFB software applications.

“Our EFB solution delivers a dependable, avionics-grade system that supports industry-leading applications,” says Jean-Pierre Mortreux, president and chief executive officer of CMC Electronics. “Many of the features found only in Class 3 EFBs such as ‘FMS-style’ line-select keys, a high-resolution, fully dimmable display, integrated communication capabilities and DO-160D qualification, make the Class 2 PilotView EFB an ideal system to meet the varied requirements of both air transport and the discerning business jet operator.”
