SPIE Defense & Security Symposium showcases the latest in optics, photonics, and imaging technologies

ORLANDO, Fla. - The SPIE Defense & Security Symposium (DSS) will showcase the latest military and homeland-security technologies in optics, photonics, and imaging, April 9 to 13 at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Sponsored by the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) the Defense & Security Symposium brings together 6,000 engineers, military personnel, and scientists to share ideas, requirements and product information.

Conference topics include technologies form homeland security and law enforcement; infrared, tactical, and laser sensors; battlespace technologies; space technologies; displays; intelligent and unmanned systems; modeling and simulation; sensor data exploration and target recognition; information fusion; data mining; network security; communications and networking; and signals, imaging, and neural network processing.

An executive forum called “The Next Tech Boom-Innovation, Megatrends and Money Flow” features author, venture capitalist and executive Mark Mills, who will present “Photonics, Electronics and Paradigms.”

John Carrano of Luminex Corp. and Defense & Security Symposium chair will moderate a panel session featuring Major General Steve Reeves, Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense at the U.S. Department of Defense.

Former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig will speak on “Catastrophic Bio-Terrorism: What is to be Done?”

Also to be covered at the conference is networking for communications and sensor deployment. In addition to more than 60 courses and workshops offered on technology and innovation, the program includes workshops relevant to business and industry.
