Data Link Solutions to deliver Link 16 information distribution systems to Saudi Arabia

March 1, 2007

Personnel at the Warner Robins Air Logistic Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia needed a high-end information distribution system, for which it turned to Data Link Solutions of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Center executives issued a $34.8 million U.S. Air Force contract to Data Link Solutions to provide Link 16 multifunctional information distribution systems (MIDS) capability to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Link 16 terminals currently provide interoperable communications aboard tactical fighter aircraft, command and control aircraft, ships, and fixed and mobile ground sites.

Link 16 is a jam-resistant, crypto-secured system that provides real-time data communications, situational awareness, and navigation. Link 16 enables situational awareness through the exchange of voice and digital data over a common communications link that is continuously and automatically updated in real time.

The MIDS LVT-3 fighter data link will be incorporated on the Saudi F-15 fleet. Link 16 equipment also currently supports Saudi E-3 AWACS. Contract work will be performed in Wayne, N.J., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
