DHS orders 250 Talon encryptors from L-3 CS-East

March 1, 2007

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued a sole-source contract award to L-3 Communications’ Communication Systems-East (L-3 CS-East) division in Camden, N.J., for 250 of its Talon (KOV-26) in-line network encryptors.

The Talon secures internet-protocol (IP) data transmissions, and has been certified by the National Security Agency (NSA) for Type 1 communications. The Talon PCMCIA-form-factor encryptor secures a user’s data, up to a level of top secret/sensitive compartmented information (TS/SCI) using a protocol compatible with the high-assurance IP encryption interoperability specification (HAIPE IS).

“Talon was designed specifically for users who are in remote locations to securely access classified networks over the Internet using our PCMCIA Talon card plugged into a commercial laptop or desktop,” says Greg Roberts, president and chief operating officer of L-3 CS-East.
