Selex Communications develops software-defined radios with PrismTech’s Spectra Tools

March 1, 2007

When engineers at Selex Communications, a Finmeccanica company in Chelmsford, England, wanted to streamline and improve their product design and delivery workflow, they entered into an agreement with PrismTech, a provider of productivity solutions and middleware located in Boston.

Selex Communications engineers are using PrismTech’s Spectra Tool in the development and deployment of the Selex software-defined radio (SDR) product line. Selex Communications is involved in the Italian Ministry of Defense program for SDR and international SDR programs, such as MIDS and JTRS.

The Spectra Tool suite is a COTS end-to-end SDR development and deployment environment for SCA-compliant waveforms and platforms. The suite, designed by a team of SDR practitioners and radio domain experts, includes a range of solutions that address SDR development needs, such as modeling tools, code generators, and an SCA operating environment.

“What we were looking for, in relation to the functional components, was a solution that would allow our company to reduce the development time for single platforms. PrismTech’s Spectra Tools was the solution that could best satisfy our requirements.” said Loris Schettino, defence communications marketing manager at Selex Communications.
